Introduction to Puppy Nipping + Training

First thing first, puppy nipping is totally normal. It is normal and it lasts longer than you think it will. It also is a little bit more difficult to modify than you would expect. It can take weeks if not, months, to convince your puppy that nipping is not necessarily a behavior that we want them to practice on humans. But the good news is with consistent protocols in place and knowing exactly what to do and not to do and sticking to those plans for longer than you think you need to to get results, you will get there.

Now there's a lot of little details to remember in today's video so we've created, as always, our training tip sheet for you. Make sure that you click the link below. It's going to give you access to all of today's suggestions in a written format, so you can make sure that you achieve your goals in the next three to six weeks.

What you're going to need is a safe isolation place for your dog to be left alone in. You're also going to need a handful of chew toys for your dog. This may include a bully stick, a yak chew, a gorilla chew, a rubber toy, a plush toy, and a safe rope toy.

Your three training tips are:

  1. Your puppy must be provided with a variety of chew toys and enrichment.

  2. Your puppy must be given the chance to play with other dogs three to five times a week.

  3. Lastly, follow the three-strike time out protocol when your puppy is actively nipping.
